Hey everyone! Today is the start of my Japan Adventure Diary. For those who don’t know, I guess I…

I loved the hell out of Descent. I played it on an old 486 where it couldn't even keep a reasonably playable frame rate, and I beat it. Despite how many keys were required, I played entirely on keyboard. It still holds up, as fun as it ever was. One of my all-time favorites.

Remembering Descent, the once-popular, fully 3D 6DOF shooter
Descent is a big part of gaming history, but not many people talk about it.

It really is extraordinary. My memory of it is how dark, dank, and adult it was, though. I was about 14 when it came out (I still have the giant, gorgeous foil box) and I remember being utterly captivated by how scary it could be, by the wild NPC art (nudity!), and the nigh endless world.

With the sad passing of Julian LeFay, I thought it time to mention how extraordinary Daggerfall is.

There’s a whimsical, faerie-story quality to its fantasy, even with all the swords, sorcery, politics, and horror. Few games capture the same sense of “Adventure” and freedom.

A true achievement.
