I Suck at Blogging

No matter how many times I tell myself to update my website, as soon as things get busy, it’s the first thing to go. Never fails. Maybe that’s because I already have too much other writing work to take care of? I don’t know. Frankly, I don’t need to question it so much as I need to accept it.

That said, there are a few developments worth mentioning for the remaining few of you who bother to keep up with my exploits.

I’m back in school officially now. Despite some early misfires, things are proceeding as planned (mostly?), though I’m busier than ever. Plans changed drastically from expectations of late last year and early this year, but I’m rolling with the punches. My meditation practice has grown considerably, and despite some emotionally difficult circumstances, I’m feeling well and doing well.

Work has continued apace, though the start of classes has made it difficult to fit much else in. I wrote a heartfelt review of ABZÛ, interviewed the guys at Stellar Jockeys, SomaSim, and Mohawk Games (yes, I got to do a phone interview with Soren Johnson—pretty awesome!), talked to David “Dacidbro” Broweleit, reflected on the awesomeness of competitive Catherine at Evo (and bugged John Hardin a time or two on Twitter about getting us our sequel), and even thought long and hard about how much I let my prejudices almost keep me from playing Overwatch. I also wrote a piece for IGN about the unorthodox way I’ve been playing No Man’s Sky (and why it’s allowed me to have more fun with it than some people have had).

I also added an entire new page to the website, one that I wrote for the benefit of my fellow students of Japanese. Being in formal classes, I realized that there were many elements of my previous self-study that might be helpful to others, so I aimed to compile a list of useful tools. It ended up becoming much bigger than I intended, but I do hope that it will be useful to at least a few of my current classmates and someone out there on the web. If you’re studying Japanese or want to start, please feel free to give the guide a look. (There’s also a permanent link up at the top of the page, reading 日本語の勉強).

And that’s about it for me for now. I could go on about far more than just this, but for the time being, I have to go do some more studying before I die of sleep deprivation.

Until next time, everyone.
